CLARIN-IT is the Italian node of CLARIN (Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure), whose grand vision it shares.
The Institute for Computational Linguistics “Antonio Zampolli” of the Italian National Research Council (ILC-CNR) was already an active participant in the CLARIN preparatory phase project (2008-2011) through the LaRI Group.
On 1st October 2015 Italy became the 16th Full Member of CLARIN ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium), the CLARIN governance and coordination body at the European level.
The Italian CLARIN consortium – represented by ILC-CNR and coordinated by Monica Monachini, Member of the CLARIN Standards Committee – is still being formed and will include several of the major universities and research institutes of the country, such as departments and institutions of language and literary studies, Philology and Computer Science, as well as groups mostly involved in the field of Digital Humanities and in the sectors of documentation, digitalization and language technologies for the Humanities.
